A Prayer for our Faith Formation Ministries

Father in Heaven, we ask your blessing on all those participating in the Faith Formation Ministries of Saint Thomas the Apostle Parish. Through the intercession of Saint Thomas, under the protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we pray that each person draw closer to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. With the grace of the Holy Spirit, we pray that each one comes to know the depths of God's love. We ask this through Jesus Christ, Our Lord.

Amen.

Children's Catechesis
The Saint Thomas the Apostle Children’s Catechesis runs from September to May. This ministry is based on the conviction that children have the capacity for a special relationship with God, even at a young age. Children age 3-5 participate in special sessions scheduled throughout the week; children in grades one through six participate on Wednesday nights from 6:30pm-7:45pm, starting off in the Parish Hall. The first Wednesday of the month is ‘Family Night’, in which families are encouraged to attend the 5:30pm Mass. Dinner is served immediately following Mass in the Parish Hall. Parents remain for their own session while children are dismissed to their classrooms for their own session. The evening ends with parents and children together in prayer. The last Wednesday of the month is a ‘home’ night for parents and children.

In addition to our Wednesday Night program, our Summer Saints Bible Camp is a week-long experience in June or July, depending on schedules.

For more information, please contact Lani Bogart in the Parish office.

Children's Initiation
This process is for children age 7 and older who have not been baptized or who have been baptized in another faith but now seek to become Roman Catholic. Classes are held Wednesday evenings from 6:30—8:30 pm.

(For adults, please refer to the information about Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults.)

For more information, please contact Lani Bogart in the Parish Office.

Children's Confirmation
Children's Confirmation is for children in grades four through six. Candidates must be registered and practicing parishioners of Saint Thomas the Apostle Parish. The sessions will be held every Wednesday night throughout the school year from 6:30-7:45pm. This year, Confirmation preparation will be combined with our Wednesday night Children's Catechesis Sessions. Students at St. Thomas the Apostle School will receive their preparation in the classroom. The date of the Confirmation will be set by the Bishop’s office in the Spring.

Junior High Catechesis
Jr. High Catechesis is for all children in grades seven and eight. We will be using an excellent series by Ignatius Press entitled Image of God to help guide our Jr. High students into a relationship with Christ through the Church. Jr. High Catechesis will be on Wednesday nights from 6:30-7:45pm, led by faith-filled and trained catechists. From energetic and engaging talks, along with same-gender small groups, the Jr. High students will come to know Christ through the Scriptures and teachings of the Church, enabling them to know themselves as truly created in the image of God.

Enrollment for Jr. High Catechesis is open for children who will be entering the seventh and eighth grade this academic year.

Jr. High Initiation is for children grades seven and eight who are not Catholic and wish to become so, or who have not received First Holy Communion or Confirmation. Sessions will be combined with our Thursday night Jr. High Catechesis Sessions. The Sacraments of Initiation will be celebrated at the Easter Vigil Mass.

Jr. High Confirmation is for children in grades seven and eight. Candidates must be registered and practicing parishioners of Saint Thomas the Apostle Parish. The sessions will be held every Wednesday night throughout the school year from 6:30-8:30pm. This year, Confirmation preparation will be combined with our Wednesday night Jr. High Catechesis Sessions. Jr. High students at St. Thomas the Apostle School will receive their preparation in the classroom. The date of the Confirmation will be set by the Bishop’s office in the Spring.

Saint Thomas the Aposlte Teens
Saint Thomas the Apostle Teen is a Catholic ministry open to teens, grades nine through twelve, of all faiths. It encourages them and their families to grow closer to Christ and His Church through the celebration of the Mass, through understanding the teachings of the Catholic Church, and through the experience of growing in a Christian community. Meetings for teens happen twice a week.
For more information, please contact Kellie Taylor in the Parish office, or go to http://teens.mylordandmygod.org.

Becoming Catholic/RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults)
The RCIA is the process by which non-Catholics become Catholic. The Catholic Church warmly welcomes potential new members and provides a hospitable environment for anyone to learn about the Catholic Faith. This process is also open to those who have been baptized and are in need of preparation to receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and/or First Eucharist.

The Compendium

To help all know, understand and love the teachings of the Church, the Vatican has released the 'Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church'. It is a question and answer summary of the Catechism, presented in an easy to read format.

It is a great resource for both Catholics and non-Catholics alike.

You can access it here at Compendium.

To help you become familiar with the structure and purpose of the Compendium, Eric J. Westby, the Director of Faith Formation, has recorded an overview entitled 'Introduction to the Compendium'.

Benedict XVI

Pope Benedict XVI has released his first Encyclical on God's love entitled 'Deus Caritas Est'. It is a powerful look at love and is set to be one of the most inspirational writings ever by a pope.

Make this reading part of your prayer time.

You can access it here at Deus Caritas Est.

To help you become familiar with the key themes of the encyclical, Eric J. Westby, the Director of Faith Formation, has recorded an 18 minute overview entitled 'Navigating Deus Caritas Est'.
